Why can Irene House offer a better price?
Irene House specializes in lift recliners and sells directly to customers. Fewer traditional retail layers mean more value can go into the chair — while support stays with the brand behind it.

The 9188 is the model we have sold the most of, and the one we have had the longest to get right. It is sized for the middle of the range — roughly 5'2" to 5'9", rated to 300 lbs — with a deep seat, a classic silhouette, and a dual-motor system that moves the backrest and footrest independently.
Almost everything below started as a message from an owner.
Second-Generation Upgrade — built from owner feedback.
Four side pockets, repositioned higher — owners told us the old pockets meant bending down. Now the remote and your essentials sit within easy reach, even while reclined.
18 W fast-charge USB-A and USB-C — enough to charge a phone or tablet properly, not just trickle it.
Externally replaceable charging module — the port unit releases from the outside of the chair, so it can be swapped without taking anything apart.
Tuned for longer sitting. We reworked both the seat and the backrest based on what owners told us about sitting for hours rather than minutes. The aim was not the softest possible cushion, but a balance that works for a wider range of body types.
Upgraded heating, across the seat as well as the back. The heating element itself was upgraded, and heat now covers a large area of the seat cushion rather than the backrest alone — so the warmth reaches more of you.
S-spring lumbar support. We added S-springs through the lumbar section, so the lower back is held rather than left to sink. It is the part of the chair you notice least when it is right, and most when it is missing.
Infinite positions including a full 180° lay-flat, 4-mode back massage, and lift assist that helps make the transition to standing easier and more controlled.
We are still changing it. If something about yours could be better, email us. The upgrades on this page exist because earlier owners did exactly that — and the next ones will come from the same place.
One thing worth saying before you choose: everyone is built differently, so measure before you order. The best chair is not the biggest one — it is the one that fits your body.

Second generation · built from owner feedback
Owners told us the pockets meant bending down. So we moved them.
Four side pockets — two on each side — now sit higher on the arm, so the remote and your everyday things stay within easy reach even while reclined. Right beside them: 18 W fast-charge USB-A and USB-C — enough to charge a phone or tablet properly, not just trickle it.
And the part nobody advertises: the charging module is externally replaceable. The port unit releases from the outside of the chair, so if it ever fails it can be swapped without taking anything apart.
A small change, until you use it every day.
Tuned for hours, not minutes
We reworked both the seat and the backrest based on what owners told us about sitting for hours rather than minutes. The aim was not the softest possible cushion — it was a balance that works across a wider range of body types, so the chair still feels right at hour three.
S-springs through the lumbar section
We added S-springs through the lumbar section, so the lower back is held rather than left to sink into the chair. It is the part of a recliner you notice least when it is right — and most when it is missing.
Heat that reaches more of you
The heating element itself was upgraded, and heat now covers a large area of the seat cushion as well as the backrest — not the back alone. Together with 4-mode back massage, both run from the same hand control.
Infinite positions, including a true 180°
Upright, anywhere in between, or all the way flat.
The backrest and footrest are driven by separate motors, so you can hold any position between 105° and a full 180° lay-flat — not a handful of fixed presets. At full recline the chair measures 73" end to end. For the owners who tell us they sleep in their chair, that is the position that matters.
Getting up shouldn't be the hard part
A steady lift toward standing.
The lift base tilts the whole chair forward and raises you smoothly toward your feet — controlled the whole way rather than a push at the end. The chair does the pushing, so standing up is smoother and easier — one controlled motion without pulling yourself forward or pushing hard on the armrests.
Before you order
Delivery & assembly
The 9188 ships in 2 boxes (28.9″ × 15.4″ × 30.3″ and 30.3″ × 24.6″ × 21.3″) that may arrive on different days — don't worry if they don't come together. Both fit through a standard doorway. Assembly is tool-free in a few simple steps, but the boxes are heavy: we recommend two people to move them into place.
Room to recline
Fully assembled it measures 42.5"H × 32.5"W × 40"D, and reclines to 73" end to end. It needs at least 18″ of wall clearance to reach the full 180° — we recommend leaving about 20″ for comfortable everyday use.
Color in your home
The same upholstery can look different in daylight, under warm lamps, and in cool light — and every screen shows color a little differently. If a particular shade matters to you, ask us before you order.
Medium-size users about 5'2"–5'9", rated to 300 lb. If you're taller, see the 9188T (up to 6'5"); if you need more width or a higher weight rating, see our Big & Tall chairs; if you're petite, the 9188S Pro is sized smaller.
What's the difference between the 9188 and the 9188 Pro?
Same size and the same classic design. The 9188 Pro adds a third motor for an adjustable headrest, an all-in-one remote with two memory positions, and second-generation raised pockets. The 9188 is the proven dual-motor version.
Does it lie fully flat?
Yes — a true 180° lay-flat, with the backrest and footrest set independently anywhere between 105° and 180°. At full recline the chair measures 73" end to end.
Are these chairs independently tested?
Yes. All of our chairs are SGS and TÜV certified — tested by independent third-party organizations for safety, durability, and quality.
What does the warranty cover?
Electronic components (motor, transformer, hand controller) — 2 years
Cover (fabric, PU/PVC, combined fabric, leather etc.) — 3 years

… She loves this chair! Fabric is comfy and chair doesn’t dominate the space. Fits her perfectly and she can operate the remote herself! Yay!
My Mom’s new house has a small living room & she didn’t want the usual enormous recliner taking over the room, so the small lift chair size is absolutely perfect. Delivery date was as promised & since my husband reports that the assembly was a breeze, he had it all ready for her on move-in day. She is thrilled to have it & had a very short learning curve learning to operate all the functions. The chenille upholstery is beautiful & so soft & comfortable!
Okay so I was a little nervous buying recliners without seeing them in person, but WOW am I glad I took the chance. The creamy white fabric is so clean and soft, I honestly had to double-check that they were used.
Sat down in one for the first time and literally did not get up for two hours. The back support is chef's kiss — hits perfectly at the neck, shoulders, and lower back. Hit the button, footrest glides out, and you are DONE. Couch potato mode: activated. 😂
They look so good in my study too — the warm wood floors, the bookshelves in the background, and these two fluffy white chairs? It's giving cozy reading nook energy and I am here for it.
Seller was super easy to deal with, packed them really well, and they arrived quicker than expected. Honestly for what I paid, this felt like stealing lol.
10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves their comfort. 🙌
Easy to assemble.
Easy to move around.
Like the color.
Very comfortable.
Pillow colors blend with (or match) the colors of the other furnature and drapes in the room. (How did you know that information?)
Recliner arrived and was assembled by some friends with minimum effort. It operated great with movements, heat and massage functions. There was one item that was not identified in the Owners manual or the Assembly guide and that is a small flat pad carped on one side and rubberized on the other that is about the size of the seat. I would like to know what that item is?
I've slept so much better in this chair, I need surgery and will be living in it for at least 2 months. This is really helping me sleep, and post op to get up.
I’m having a total knee replacement on Oct 8th. I needed a recliner that actually laid flat so I could put my “toes above my nose” with an angled sponge. This chair fits the bill perfectly plus it helps by lifting you into a more of a standing position if needed. I’m 5’11” and weight 280. I got the 9188E and it’s perfect. Super smooth and quiet functions. Heat and massage are a nice touch as well. Customer service is top notch as they responded very quickly. Shipping was like 3 days to my door (WV shipped from NJ warehouse) and set up was less than 10 minutes complete.
Love the chair, bought it for my mom who has a bad back - she said it's the first time she was able to sleep in weeks - I want to buy her one for her home but she won't be able to assemble it.
I love this chair. I bought it for my wife who is in assisted living.Un packing two cartons was completed in minutes. Assembly no tools were needed. The assembly instructions were excellent. The recliner was assembled in fifteen minutes. This recliner is not a bulky overstuffed recliner. It was an excellent choice to select this chair.
I'm having back surgery soon and this chair is a must-have for me. 10x more comfortable than my other recliner. I'm 6'5" & 250 lbs and fit comfortably on the ET version. My head rests on the headrest (goes past most others) and my feet don't hang off the footrest because of the extension piece.
Nice size for my elderly mother. Lift is slow but im sure its safer that way. Easy to assemble. Came in two boxes. Nice looking chair. Seems comfortable.
I love the feel of the chair. Love the quiet motor and message. It’s so easy to get out of especially with my arthritic knees. The included pillows help with my lower back. I’m so glad I invested money into a chair that helps me. Thank you for the great customer support!
Looks great, works great, and feels very comfortable. Assembly was easy too. All in all it’s exactly what I wanted and I’m very satisfied with this purchase.
Customer service was very helpful selecting the right chair for my husband and informative about the parts and motor. Shipping was fast with a couple days.
Putting it together we needed extra set of hands as it was a bit heavy.
Everything works well. Only con is my husband feels the extension on the foot rest could be a wee bit higher while it’s extended.
Over all a great chair thus far.
This is my second Irene House Purchase. I bought a recliner for my husband about one year ago. When it came time for me to get another one for myself, there was no doubt that I wanted one from Irene House. The quality and craftsmanship are superb. Also, their customer service is personal and prompt. Highly recommend this company.
Very comfortable, perfect size and support; plus, we were a bit apprehensive about the faux leather being too hot but it isn't. These chairs seem to be well built and sturdy.
