The 9188T is built for one thing: height. Not width, not weight — length. If recliners keep stopping too soon behind your neck, and your calves hang off the end of the footrest, this is the one that was designed around you. Rated to 350 lbs and sized for roughly 5'5" to 6'5".
Taller owners usually notice the problem before they know the measurement: their head sits above the backrest, or their heels never quite make it onto the footrest.
The folding extended footrest. We introduced our folding extended footrest design in 2023. Since then, similar extended-footrest concepts have become increasingly common across the category. It solves two problems at once that most designs solve separately: it extends far enough to carry long legs all the way to the heel, and it sits higher when open, so your legs are supported rather than left dangling. A longer footrest also means a longer lever arm — so we rebuilt the footrest structure itself to carry that load. We did not simply make the pad longer.
A three-layer backrest. The top layer supports the neck, which is exactly where most backrests stop too soon for a taller person. The middle section is deliberately softer, so your back settles into it instead of being pushed forward. The result is support that feels more natural along the back.
Tall support without the heavy-duty feel. Heavy-duty recliners are usually firm to the point of being hard. The 9188T is tuned closer to a standard-size recliner — a medium-soft cushion you can settle into — over a frame rated to 350 lbs.
Comfort designed for long sitting. Staying comfortable for a long stretch is a different problem from staying comfortable for a few minutes, and it is the one taller owners write to us about. Tall owners often tell us they spend long stretches reading, watching TV, resting, or even falling asleep in the chair.
Stronger actuators, because a longer footrest demands them. An extended footrest needs meaningfully more thrust than a standard one. We use TiMOTION actuators — the same class of linear actuator used in medical adjustable beds — selected for the higher load and travel demands of the extended-footrest design.

It solves two problems most designs treat separately: it extends far enough to carry long legs all the way to the heel, and it sits higher when open, so your legs rest supported instead of dangling. A longer footrest is also a longer lever arm — so we rebuilt the footrest structure to carry that load, and fitted TiMOTION actuators, the same class of linear actuator used in medical adjustable beds, for the higher thrust and travel the design demands.
We did not simply make the pad longer.
A three-layer backrest
Support that doesn't stop at your shoulders.
On a standard recliner, a taller person's head sits above the backrest — exactly where support should be, there is nothing. The 9188T's backrest is built in three layers: the top layer supports the neck, where most backrests stop too soon for a taller person; the middle section is deliberately softer, so your back settles into it instead of being pushed forward. The result is support that runs the full length of your back — not most of it.
180° lay flat — 78 inches, head to heel.
The backrest and footrest adjust independently through 105°–180°, including a true lay-flat position. At full recline the 9188T measures 78 inches end to end — six-foot-six of continuous support. For the owners who tell us they regularly rest or sleep in their chair, that length is the difference between propping yourself up and actually stretching out.

The 9188T ships in 2 boxes that may arrive on different days — don't worry if they don't come together. The boxes are heavy; we recommend two people to move them into place.

Yes — a true 180° lay-flat position. At full recline the chair measures 78 inches end to end.
How does the folding extended footrest work?
As you recline, the footrest unfolds to extend farther than a standard footrest, carrying your legs to the heel — and it sits higher when open, so your legs are supported rather than left dangling. When you sit upright, it folds back in.
I could not find a chair that was tall enough for my 6'3" husband to lay his head back on. Not only can he lay his head back — his feet do not hang off the footrest. A superb chair for tall people.

Recliner arrived and was assembled by some friends with minimum effort. It operated great with movements, heat and massage functions. There was one item that was not identified in the Owners manual or the Assembly guide and that is a small flat pad carped on one side and rubberized on the other that is about the size of the seat. I would like to know what that item is?
I've slept so much better in this chair, I need surgery and will be living in it for at least 2 months. This is really helping me sleep, and post op to get up.

I'm having back surgery soon and this chair is a must-have for me. 10x more comfortable than my other recliner. I'm 6'5" & 250 lbs and fit comfortably on the ET version. My head rests on the headrest (goes past most others) and my feet don't hang off the footrest because of the extension piece.
