The 9188ET is the extra-wide and tall version of our best-selling 9188 — same clean, panel-stitched back, padded pillow arms and single-panel seat, with a longer seat and extended footrest so taller users get full leg support instead of hanging off the end. Rated to 400 lbs and sized for roughly 5'5" to 6'7".
2nd Generation Upgrade. Redesigned around real customer feedback:
Four side pockets — two on each side, positioned higher so the remote and your essentials stay within reach without bending down, even while reclined.
USB-A and USB-C charging ports — charge your phone or tablet from the chair.
Upgraded hardwood frame — redesigned for greater structural stability and a longer service life.
Reinforced steel frame — rebuilt for heavy-duty daily use.
66% thicker footrest steel plate — up from 3 mm to 5 mm (0.12" to 0.2") vs. the 1st generation, for significantly greater footrest stability under heavier legs. Extended, it now sits about 2" (5 cm) higher than the 1st generation.
Dual-Motor System. The backrest and the footrest move independently, so you can hold any position between fully upright and a true 180° lay-flat — not just a handful of fixed presets. The lift function brings you smoothly and safely to standing.
Lumbar heat and 4-mode back massage help ease muscle tension through the day.
Pairs Well With
Wide enough. Long enough. Rated to 400 lb.
Most big-and-tall recliners solve width and stop there. If you're tall as well as broad, the problem shows up at the other end: your heels hang off the footrest, and the chair that finally fits your shoulders still leaves your legs unsupported. The 9188ET is the extra-wide and tall version of our best-selling 9188 — a longer seat and an extended footrest, rated to 400 lb.
Is the 9188ET the right fit for you?
Built for bigger and taller users — about 5'5" to 6'7", rated to 400 lb. Measured from the factory drawing.

The extended footrest
43.9 inches, so your heels land on the chair — not past it.
Taller owners usually describe the same thing: the recliner fits everywhere except the legs, and the feet dangle off the end. Extended, the 9188ET footrest reaches 43.9" from the seat back — far enough to carry long legs all the way to the heel.
A longer footrest also has to carry more load. The footrest steel plate is 5 mm thick — 66% thicker than the first generation (up from 3 mm), and extended it now sits about 2" (5 cm) higher, because heavier legs push a standard footrest down under load.
Longer, and rebuilt to stay where it should.
Second generation — rebuilt for heavier daily use
Upgraded hardwood frame, redesigned for greater structural stability and a longer service life, over a reinforced steel frame rebuilt for heavy-duty daily use. Together with the 5 mm footrest plate, these are the three parts that actually carry you at 400 lb — each one changed for this weight class, not relabelled.
A true 180° lay-flat — 81 inches, head to heel
The backrest and footrest move independently, so you can hold any position between fully upright and a true 180° flat — not a handful of fixed presets. At full recline the chair measures 81" end to end, which is what makes stretching out — or sleeping in it — actually work at 6'7".
Sitting well for hours is less about one perfect position than about being able to change it. Because the two motors are independent, shifting your legs never costs you the back angle you had settled into.
Owners asked. We changed it.
Four pockets, positioned where you can actually reach them.
Four side pockets — two on each side — sit higher than traditional pockets, so the remote and your everyday things stay within reach without bending down, even while reclined. Right beside them: USB-A and USB-C charging ports, so a phone or tablet charges from the chair.
Heat and massage
Four massage points, eight modes, three intensities.
Back massage across four points, with 8 modes and 3 intensities and a timer, plus backrest and seat heating — all from the hand control. Set it and it turns itself off; you don't have to remember.
Getting up shouldn't be the hard part
A steady lift toward standing.
The powered lift base tilts the whole chair forward and raises you smoothly toward your feet — steady at 400 lb, and controlled the whole way rather than a single push at the end. It's the kind of help that matters most after surgery, with sore knees or hips, or on the days standing up just takes more.
Before you order
Delivery & assembly
The 9188ET ships in 3 boxes that may arrive on different days — don't worry if they don't all come together. Assembly is tool-free in a few simple steps, but the boxes are heavy: we recommend two people to move them into place.
Room to recline
Fully assembled it measures 46"H × 38"W × 41"D, and reclines to 81" end to end. Leave clearance behind the chair to reach the full 180°.
Color in your home
The same upholstery can look different in daylight, under warm lamps, and in cool light — and every screen shows color a little differently. If a particular shade matters to you, ask us before you order.
What's the difference between the 9188E and the 9188ET?
Same width and the same 400 lb rating — the 9188ET adds the extended footrest and a longer seat, for users up to about 6'7". If you're broad but not especially tall, the 9188E fits better; if your heels hang off the end of a standard footrest, choose the 9188ET.
Does it lie fully flat?
Yes — a true 180° lay-flat, with the backrest and footrest set independently anywhere between 105° and 180°. At full recline the chair measures 81" end to end.
I need more than 400 lb. What else do you make?
Our 500 lb models are the 9188 EWT500 (30.5" seat, 82" reclined) and the 9205 EWT500 (extra wide). Both use a triple-motor system with 800 lb of combined lift force.

My Mom’s new house has a small living room & she didn’t want the usual enormous recliner taking over the room, so the small lift chair size is absolutely perfect. Delivery date was as promised & since my husband reports that the assembly was a breeze, he had it all ready for her on move-in day. She is thrilled to have it & had a very short learning curve learning to operate all the functions. The chenille upholstery is beautiful & so soft & comfortable!
Okay so I was a little nervous buying recliners without seeing them in person, but WOW am I glad I took the chance. The creamy white fabric is so clean and soft, I honestly had to double-check that they were used.
Sat down in one for the first time and literally did not get up for two hours. The back support is chef's kiss — hits perfectly at the neck, shoulders, and lower back. Hit the button, footrest glides out, and you are DONE. Couch potato mode: activated. 😂
They look so good in my study too — the warm wood floors, the bookshelves in the background, and these two fluffy white chairs? It's giving cozy reading nook energy and I am here for it.
Seller was super easy to deal with, packed them really well, and they arrived quicker than expected. Honestly for what I paid, this felt like stealing lol.
10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves their comfort. 🙌
Easy to assemble.
Easy to move around.
Like the color.
Very comfortable.
Pillow colors blend with (or match) the colors of the other furnature and drapes in the room. (How did you know that information?)
Recliner arrived and was assembled by some friends with minimum effort. It operated great with movements, heat and massage functions. There was one item that was not identified in the Owners manual or the Assembly guide and that is a small flat pad carped on one side and rubberized on the other that is about the size of the seat. I would like to know what that item is?
I've slept so much better in this chair, I need surgery and will be living in it for at least 2 months. This is really helping me sleep, and post op to get up.
I love this chair. I bought it for my wife who is in assisted living.Un packing two cartons was completed in minutes. Assembly no tools were needed. The assembly instructions were excellent. The recliner was assembled in fifteen minutes. This recliner is not a bulky overstuffed recliner. It was an excellent choice to select this chair.
I'm having back surgery soon and this chair is a must-have for me. 10x more comfortable than my other recliner. I'm 6'5" & 250 lbs and fit comfortably on the ET version. My head rests on the headrest (goes past most others) and my feet don't hang off the footrest because of the extension piece.
Nice size for my elderly mother. Lift is slow but im sure its safer that way. Easy to assemble. Came in two boxes. Nice looking chair. Seems comfortable.
I love the feel of the chair. Love the quiet motor and message. It’s so easy to get out of especially with my arthritic knees. The included pillows help with my lower back. I’m so glad I invested money into a chair that helps me. Thank you for the great customer support!
Looks great, works great, and feels very comfortable. Assembly was easy too. All in all it’s exactly what I wanted and I’m very satisfied with this purchase.
Customer service was very helpful selecting the right chair for my husband and informative about the parts and motor. Shipping was fast with a couple days.
Putting it together we needed extra set of hands as it was a bit heavy.
Everything works well. Only con is my husband feels the extension on the foot rest could be a wee bit higher while it’s extended.
Over all a great chair thus far.
This is my second Irene House Purchase. I bought a recliner for my husband about one year ago. When it came time for me to get another one for myself, there was no doubt that I wanted one from Irene House. The quality and craftsmanship are superb. Also, their customer service is personal and prompt. Highly recommend this company.
Very comfortable, perfect size and support; plus, we were a bit apprehensive about the faux leather being too hot but it isn't. These chairs seem to be well built and sturdy.
So far it is a great chair bought 2 for my parents whom are 91 years of age. Difficult to walk and this chair helps with standing them, it just does so much more than i had even thought to research! Great on quality beauty just love them!
The power chair is a wonder to behold. The adjustment mechanism works very nicely, smoothly, and is very quiet. You don’t need to be a senior to reap the many benefits of this chair. Love the massage and heat feature. It's comfortable and nice looking.
Just put it together. Instructions are the "Picture" type and are O.K. One chair went together perfectly in about 20 minutes, fantastic quality for the money!!
The chair is awesome. It does what it’s supposed to. It’s made life easier for my mother. There was one issue with a power supply but they responded immediately and we worked it out and I got a new one. My thanks to you!
