The 9188 EWT500 is the tall version of the same streamlined design — clean panel-stitched back, padded pillow arms, single-panel seat — with a longer seat and extended footrest so taller users get full leg support instead of hanging off the end. Rated to 500 lbs and sized for roughly 5'8" to 6'5".
Triple-Motor System. Two 400 lb motors drive the footrest and the lift together — 800 lbs of combined force, far beyond the 500 lb capacity, so the motors never work at their limit. Twin lift rods carry that load on both sides of the frame rather than through a single point. A third motor powers the backrest independently, so you can set the back and the footrest separately.
Engineered for heavier daily use:
45-density high-resilience foam — an all-foam build specified for the 500 lb models, chosen for how it holds its shape under heavier weight over years of use.
Upgraded hardwood frame — redesigned for greater structural stability and a longer service life.
Reinforced steel frame — rebuilt for heavy-duty daily use.
66% thicker footrest steel plate — up from 3 mm to 5 mm (0.12" to 0.2") vs. the 1st generation, for significantly greater footrest stability under heavier legs. Extended, it now sits about 2" (5 cm) higher than the 1st generation.
20,000-cycle tested — the lift mechanism is tested to 20,000 full operations.
Reclines to 165°. At 500 lb capacity, 165° is the recline this chair is engineered to hold — deep enough to stretch out fully, with your back and legs supported at every position in between. The frame and mechanism are built to keep holding it that way for years.
Lumbar heat and back massage help ease muscle tension through the day, and the lift assist brings you smoothly and safely to standing.
Pairs Well With
Built to carry 500 lb — Wide enough. Long enough.
At 500 lb, the question is never whether a chair looks sturdy — it's whether the parts that actually carry you were built for it. On the 9188 EWT500 the motors, the lift rods, the footrest plate and the foam were each specified for this weight class, not carried over from a lighter chair with a bigger label on it.
Is the 9188 EWT500 the right fit for you?

Triple-motor system
800 lb of lift force for a 500 lb chair.
A single motor working at its rated limit is the part that fails first. So the footrest and the lift are driven by two 400 lb motors together — 800 lb of combined force, well beyond the 500 lb capacity, which means the motors are never working at their ceiling. Twin lift rods carry that load on both sides of the frame rather than through a single point.
A third motor powers the backrest independently, so the back and the footrest are set separately — not locked to each other.
The margin is the point.
Engineered for heavier daily use
66% thicker footrest steel plate — up from 3 mm to 5 mm (0.12" to 0.2") versus the first generation, and extended it now sits about 2" (5 cm) higher, because heavier legs push a standard footrest down under load.
45-density high-resilience foam — an all-foam build specified for the 500 lb models, chosen for how it holds its shape under heavier weight over years of use.
Upgraded hardwood frame and reinforced steel frame, and a lift mechanism tested to 20,000 full operations. We don't ask you to take "heavy duty" on faith — these are the four things that carry you, and each one was changed for this weight class.
That is what decides comfort over long stretches rather than the first ten minutes: at 500 lb an ordinary cushion compresses early, and you end up sitting on the frame instead of in the chair. A denser foam is the difference between hour one and hour four.
Why 165°, not flat
Reclines to a deep, supported 165° — 82 inches, head to heel.
The extended footrest supports your legs fully, even at a deep 165° recline. 165° is the recline this chair is engineered to hold at 500 lb — deep enough to stretch out completely, with the frame supporting you securely at every position in between, year after year.
Owners do rest — and sleep — in this chair rather than the bed. Within the 105°–165° range the backrest and footrest still set independently, so you can stop wherever your body wants and the extended footrest carries your legs to the heel rather than leaving them hanging.
Getting up shouldn't be the hard part
A steady lift to your feet — carried on both sides.
The powered lift raises you smoothly toward standing, with the load shared across twin rods rather than a single point — steady even at 500 lb. It's the kind of help that matters most after surgery, with sore joints, or on the days standing up just takes more.
Two controls, each doing one job
Set the back and the legs where you want them.
One control handles motion — backrest, footrest and lift, each on its own button, so you can hold any position in between rather than choosing from presets. The second handles lumbar heat and vibration massage. Large buttons, clear icons, and a cord long enough to reach from any position.
Within reach, reclined or upright
The remote stays where you can get it.
Side pockets sit high enough on the arm that the remote, a phone or a magazine stays within reach without bending down or twisting — including when you're fully reclined.
Heat and massage, once you're properly supported
Lumbar heat and vibration massage, controlled from the second remote. With your body fully carried by the frame — not perched on it — longer stretches of rest come easier.
Before you order
Delivery & assembly
The 9188 EWT500 ships in 2 boxes that may arrive on different days — don't worry if they don't come together. Assembly is tool-free in a few simple steps, but the boxes are heavy: we recommend two people to move them into place.
Room to recline
Fully assembled it measures 47.5"H × 44"W × 42.5"D, and reclines to 82" end to end. Leave clearance behind the chair to reach the full 165°.
Color in your home
The same upholstery can look different in daylight, under warm lamps, and in cool light — and every screen shows color a little differently. If a particular shade matters to you, ask us before you order.
Users who need a 500 lb weight rating together with a longer seat and extended footrest. If you need more width rather than more length, see the 9205 EWT500, which is 46" wide. For 400 lb capacity, see our Big & Tall chairs.
How far does it recline?
From 105° upright to 165°, with the backrest and footrest set independently. At full recline the chair measures 82" end to end.
What makes it different from a standard lift recliner?
Four things were changed for the 500 lb class, not relabelled: two 400 lb motors driving the footrest and lift together (800 lb combined), twin lift rods, a 5 mm footrest steel plate (66% thicker than the first generation), and 45-density all-foam construction — with the lift mechanism tested to 20,000 operations.

My Mom’s new house has a small living room & she didn’t want the usual enormous recliner taking over the room, so the small lift chair size is absolutely perfect. Delivery date was as promised & since my husband reports that the assembly was a breeze, he had it all ready for her on move-in day. She is thrilled to have it & had a very short learning curve learning to operate all the functions. The chenille upholstery is beautiful & so soft & comfortable!
Okay so I was a little nervous buying recliners without seeing them in person, but WOW am I glad I took the chance. The creamy white fabric is so clean and soft, I honestly had to double-check that they were used.
Sat down in one for the first time and literally did not get up for two hours. The back support is chef's kiss — hits perfectly at the neck, shoulders, and lower back. Hit the button, footrest glides out, and you are DONE. Couch potato mode: activated. 😂
They look so good in my study too — the warm wood floors, the bookshelves in the background, and these two fluffy white chairs? It's giving cozy reading nook energy and I am here for it.
Seller was super easy to deal with, packed them really well, and they arrived quicker than expected. Honestly for what I paid, this felt like stealing lol.
10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves their comfort. 🙌
Easy to assemble.
Easy to move around.
Like the color.
Very comfortable.
Pillow colors blend with (or match) the colors of the other furnature and drapes in the room. (How did you know that information?)
Recliner arrived and was assembled by some friends with minimum effort. It operated great with movements, heat and massage functions. There was one item that was not identified in the Owners manual or the Assembly guide and that is a small flat pad carped on one side and rubberized on the other that is about the size of the seat. I would like to know what that item is?
I've slept so much better in this chair, I need surgery and will be living in it for at least 2 months. This is really helping me sleep, and post op to get up.
I love this chair. I bought it for my wife who is in assisted living.Un packing two cartons was completed in minutes. Assembly no tools were needed. The assembly instructions were excellent. The recliner was assembled in fifteen minutes. This recliner is not a bulky overstuffed recliner. It was an excellent choice to select this chair.
I'm having back surgery soon and this chair is a must-have for me. 10x more comfortable than my other recliner. I'm 6'5" & 250 lbs and fit comfortably on the ET version. My head rests on the headrest (goes past most others) and my feet don't hang off the footrest because of the extension piece.
Nice size for my elderly mother. Lift is slow but im sure its safer that way. Easy to assemble. Came in two boxes. Nice looking chair. Seems comfortable.
I love the feel of the chair. Love the quiet motor and message. It’s so easy to get out of especially with my arthritic knees. The included pillows help with my lower back. I’m so glad I invested money into a chair that helps me. Thank you for the great customer support!
Looks great, works great, and feels very comfortable. Assembly was easy too. All in all it’s exactly what I wanted and I’m very satisfied with this purchase.
Customer service was very helpful selecting the right chair for my husband and informative about the parts and motor. Shipping was fast with a couple days.
Putting it together we needed extra set of hands as it was a bit heavy.
Everything works well. Only con is my husband feels the extension on the foot rest could be a wee bit higher while it’s extended.
Over all a great chair thus far.
This is my second Irene House Purchase. I bought a recliner for my husband about one year ago. When it came time for me to get another one for myself, there was no doubt that I wanted one from Irene House. The quality and craftsmanship are superb. Also, their customer service is personal and prompt. Highly recommend this company.
Very comfortable, perfect size and support; plus, we were a bit apprehensive about the faux leather being too hot but it isn't. These chairs seem to be well built and sturdy.
So far it is a great chair bought 2 for my parents whom are 91 years of age. Difficult to walk and this chair helps with standing them, it just does so much more than i had even thought to research! Great on quality beauty just love them!
The power chair is a wonder to behold. The adjustment mechanism works very nicely, smoothly, and is very quiet. You don’t need to be a senior to reap the many benefits of this chair. Love the massage and heat feature. It's comfortable and nice looking.
Just put it together. Instructions are the "Picture" type and are O.K. One chair went together perfectly in about 20 minutes, fantastic quality for the money!!
The chair is awesome. It does what it’s supposed to. It’s made life easier for my mother. There was one issue with a power supply but they responded immediately and we worked it out and I got a new one. My thanks to you!
