The Irene House 9219 is a four-motor zero gravity power lift recliner. Four independent motors give you more control over how you sit and recline: one adjusts the backrest, one adjusts the footrest, and two drive the zero-gravity movement that changes the chair’s reclining geometry.

Recline anywhere from 105° to 160° and stop wherever you feel most comfortable. Zero gravity is not the same as lay-flat — the 9219 is built for position control, not for lying down at 180°.

Upholstered in dark blue top grain leather, with heat and massage, a six-button wired hand control and a side pocket. Recommended for people 5'5"–5'9", up to 300 lb.

What the 9219 is

Four motors, so the chair isn't one shape.

Four independent motors give you more control over how you sit and recline. Adjust the backrest and footrest independently, while the dual zero-gravity mechanism changes the chair's reclining geometry to create an elevated-leg, supported zero-gravity position.

Recline anywhere from 105° to 160° and stop wherever you feel most comfortable.

The mechanism

4 Motors. More Ways to Get Comfortable.

Three things move separately on this chair: the angle of the back, the height of the legs, and the tilt of the whole seat. Each one you set is one you don't have to accept as a side effect of the others.

Zero gravity is not lay-flat

A Different Kind of Recline

Zero gravity isn't the same as lay-flat. Instead of reclining to 180°, the 9219 adjusts from 105° to 160°, allowing your legs to rise into an elevated position while your body remains supported by the chair.

Sitting up, footrest closed. Where the chair starts.

160° · Full zero gravity

The seat itself tilts, so the legs come up as the back goes down.

If what you want is a chair that lies flat, this isn't it — and that is on purpose. The 9188 family reclines to a full 180° for sleeping. The 9219 stops at 160° because the point here is the position, not lying down.

Independent adjustment

Put your feet up without lying back.

The footrest doesn't wait for the backrest. Raise your legs while you stay sitting upright to read; take the back down without bringing the legs with it.

The chair holds wherever you let go of the button. That is what infinite positions means here — not a list of presets to pick from, but no fixed stops at all.

Getting up

The seat comes to you.

Hold the up button and the lift base tilts the whole seat forward and upward, until standing is a short step rather than a push.

Recommended for people 5'5"–5'9", up to 300 lb.

Second generation

We took the hook off.

The hand control used to live on a hook. On a drawing a hook is fine. In a chair you are reaching over the arm, usually without looking — and a hook asks you to find one exact point. It was the part of this chair that was hardest to use without looking at it.

So the hook is gone. In its place is a solid brass rail that runs along the side panel. The clip on the handset slides onto it anywhere along its length: you bring the handset to the rail instead of aiming at a hook.

It is also the one piece of hardware you see from across the room. That is the other reason it is brass.

Also new in the second generation

USB-A and USB-C, and a redrawn pocket.

The second generation added charging: a USB-A and a USB-C port, set into a metal plate on the outer side panel beside the rail. The cable runs down the outside of the arm instead of across your lap.

The side pocket was redesigned at the same time. It sits below the rail on the outside of the arm, so a remote, a phone or a book stays within reach while the chair is reclined.

Controls

Two handsets. Six buttons. Nothing to set up.

Six buttons, three pairs

Lift, backrest, footrest — one pair each, up and down. There is no home button and no presets to program: every button is a direction, and the chair moves for as long as you hold it.

The cover

Top grain leather.

The 9219 is upholstered in top grain leather — camel brown or dark blue — with contrast stitching along the arms and the seat.

We don't ask you to take "top grain" on faith: the cover is backed by a 3-year warranty, the same term as the reclining mechanism.

Who this is not for. The 9219 is a medium-size chair. If you are taller than 5'9", the 9188T is cut for height; above 300 lb, the 9205L (400 lb) or the EWT500 (500 lb) will hold you. Buying the wrong size is the most common reason a lift chair gets returned.

Questions people ask about the 9219

Is zero gravity the same as lay-flat?

No. A lay-flat recliner opens out to roughly 180°, so you are lying down. The 9219 reclines from 105° to 160° and tilts the seat as it goes, so your legs rise and the chair keeps supporting your back. If you want to sleep flat in the chair, look at the 9188 family instead.

What do the four motors actually do?

One drives the backrest, one drives the footrest, and two drive the zero-gravity movement that tilts the seat. Because they are independent, the back angle, the leg height and the tilt of the seat are three separate settings rather than one linked motion.

How far does the 9219 recline?

105° to 160°. At full recline the chair measures 67" from end to end and 34" high, and it needs 24" of clearance behind it.

Can the footrest go up without the back going down?

Yes. The footrest motor is separate from the backrest motor, so you can raise your legs while sitting upright, or recline the back with the footrest still closed.

Who is the 9219 sized for?

People roughly 5'5"–5'9" and up to 300 lb. The seat is 23.5" wide and 23.5" deep, 21" from the floor, with the arms at 25.5".

Does it have heat and massage?

Yes, on a second hand control: back and lumbar zones, three intensity levels, three modes, heat, and a 15/30/60-minute timer.

Is there a USB port?

Yes — one USB-A and one USB-C, in a metal plate on the outer side panel beside the brass rail that holds the hand control. Charging was added in the second generation of the 9219.

Does the hand control have memory or preset positions?

No. The six buttons are three up/down pairs — lift, backrest, footrest — and the chair moves while you hold a button. There is no home button and nothing to program.

This is the perfect chair for me. Great size, beautiful color and seems to be well built. I have only had less than a week but refuse to sit anywhere else. Never knew this company existed and somehow just landed on the site one day. I se to purchase chair from a medical supply store. Save me lots of money from Irene’s House.

9219 Medium Top Grain Zero Gravity Power Lift Chair - Four Motor, Heat Massage

Review for leather, zero gravity recliner Once you tried zero gravity you will not go back to traditional recliner. It's a game changer. The comfort is exceptional, like floating. The leather feels high-quality and has a luxurious look to it. Assembly was a breeze, which is always a plus. However, I do have one little caveat. After about two weeks the lumbar and seat cushions have lost their resistance. I didn't expect that to happen so soon. It's a bit disappointing since everything else about the recliner is amazing. All in all, I really love the recliner for its comfort and design. Just keep an eye on those custions!
