Dedicated support from our U.S. team

The Irene House 9185 is a small power lift recliner designed for petite adults between 4'8" and 5'7". Its compact 29" wide frame fits easily into smaller rooms, while the short 20.5" seat depth and 22" wide seat give smaller builds the fit that standard-size recliners cannot.

Solid wood arms, in camel brown top grain leather

A single curved piece of solid wood runs over each padded arm. It is the design signature of the 9185 — and it is also firm enough to push up from, which matters if you are used to getting out of a chair with your arms.

Who it is for

Petite adults and seniors up to 300 lbs who want everyday comfort and real mobility assistance in a space-saving size. Dual motors adjust the backrest and footrest independently, with infinite positions from upright to a 165° recline. Lumbar heat and 4-point back massage come standard.

9185 · Small · Solid Wood Arms

Made small on purpose.

For adults 4'8"–5'7". 29 inches wide, with a 20.5-inch seat.

Who the 9185 is for

A chair that isn't too big for you.

Seat depth decides where your back lands. Too deep, and a smaller frame gets two bad choices: perch on the front edge with nothing behind the lower back, or slide all the way back until your feet leave the floor.

20.5"Seat depth — short enough that your back reaches the lumbar support
22"Seat width — snug rather than swimming
29"Overall width — fits a small room and a standard doorway

Sized for 4'8"–5'7"

20.5" seat depth, 19" seat height

Who this is not for. If you are taller than 5'7", the seat will be short on your thighs — the 9188 (medium) or 9188T (tall) is cut for you. Buying the wrong size is the most common reason a lift chair gets returned.

The arms

Something firm to push up from.

Ask a smaller adult how they get out of a chair and you often get the same answer: both hands on the arms, and push. When you don't weigh much, your own arms can do most of the work.

What gets in the way is usually the chair. Press down on a fully upholstered arm and the foam gives exactly when you need it not to — the push you planned turns into a wobble.

Each arm on the 9185 is a single curved piece of solid wood running over the padded leather. Your hand lands on wood, not on foam.

The power lift is still there for the days you want it. The wood is there for the days you don't.

Getting up

Or let the chair do it.

Hold the up button and the lift base tilts the whole seat forward and upward, until standing is a short step rather than a push. It rises to 55.5 inches at the top of its travel.

Rated to 300 lb.

Lying back

Down to 165°, and anywhere in between.

Two motors move the backrest and the footrest separately, so the angle between them is yours to set: upright to read, tipped back to watch, or all the way down to rest. The chair holds wherever you let go of the button.

105° · Upright

Where the chair starts. 36.5" deep.

165° · Full recline

67.5" end to end, 30.5" high. Needs 20" behind it.

The 9185 does not lay flat. 165° is a reclined resting position — the back stays well short of horizontal. If you want a chair you can sleep in flat every night, the 9188 family opens to a full 180°.

The leathers

Two top grain leathers, one wood.

The 9185 also comes in faux leather and in fabric. These two are the top grain versions — real hide, where the grain is the surface rather than a print on top of it.

Top Grain Dark Blue

A deep navy that reads almost black in low light, with the wood warm against it.

Top Grain Yellow Brown

A camel brown close to the tone of the wood — the quieter, warmer of the two.

We don't ask you to take "top grain" on faith: the cover is backed by a 3-year warranty, the same term as the reclining mechanism and the solid wood frame.

Day to day

Two handsets, and a pocket to keep them in.

The two Irene House 9185 hand controls resting on the camel brown leather seat: the position handset and the heat and massage handset

Four buttons, then heat and massage

The position handset has four buttons — one pair for the backrest, one for the footrest. Hold and the chair moves; let go and it stops wherever you are. The second handset runs heat and massage: power and AUTO, a BACK / LUMBAR zone selector, three intensity levels (H / M / L), three modes (M1 / M2 / M3), heat, and a 15 / 30 / 60-minute timer.

A pocket on the outside of the arm

The handsets, the remote, your glasses — on the outside of the arm, where you can reach them while the chair is reclined rather than down beside the cushion.

Questions people ask about the 9185

Why is the seat only 20.5 inches deep?

Because that is what decides whether a smaller adult can actually use the back of the chair. On a deeper seat you either sit forward with a gap behind your lower back, or slide back and lose the floor under your feet. At 20.5" the lumbar support is where a 4'8"–5'7" back actually is.

What makes the wooden armrests different from a padded arm?

Each arm is one curved piece of solid wood running over the padded leather, so your hand lands on wood instead of foam. If you are used to pushing up out of a chair with both hands, that is the surface doing the work. It is also what makes the chair read as furniture rather than equipment.

What is the difference between the top grain leather and the faux leather versions?

Same chair: same frame, same wood arms, same motors, same dimensions. The top grain versions are real hide, so the grain you see is the surface of the leather rather than a print on a coated backing. Both carry the same 3-year cover warranty.

Does it have heat and massage, and how do I control it?

Yes — on a second hand control, separate from the one that moves the chair. Lumbar heat and 4-point back massage, with BACK and LUMBAR zones, three intensity levels, three modes, and a 15/30/60-minute timer.

FAQs

Who is the 9185 designed for?

The 9185 is our small-size lift chair with solid wood armrests, designed for petite adults between 4'8" and 5'7" tall, up to 300 lbs. Its 22" wide seat and short 20.5" seat depth fit smaller builds, and the 29" frame fits smaller rooms. Lumbar heat and 4-point back massage are included.

Does the 9185 lay flat? Can I sleep in it?

No. Dual motors adjust the backrest and footrest independently, reclining the 9185 to 165° — a reclined resting position rather than a bed. It does not open to a full 180°.

How many boxes does the 9185 ship in? Is assembly difficult?

The 9185 ships in 2 boxes (Box 1: 30.1" x 17.3" x 24.4"; Box 2: 30.1" x 23.8" x 19.5"), which may arrive on different days — don't worry if they don't show up together. Assembly is tool-free and takes just a few simple steps: the backrest slides onto the base and the cables plug together.

How much space does the 9185 need?

Fully assembled, the 9185 measures 41.5"H x 29"W x 36.5"D — one of our most compact models. It ships unassembled in 2 boxes, so doorways aren't a concern. When placing the chair, leave about 20" of wall clearance so it can fully recline.

Do your products have any certifications?

Yes. All of our chairs are SGS and TÜV certified — tested by independent third-party organizations for safety, durability, and quality.

What is the warranty?
  • Electronic components(motor, transformer, hand controller)/2 years
  • Cover (fabric, PU/PVC, combined fabric, leather etc)/3 years
  • Reclining mechanism/3 years
  • Solid wood frame/3 years

You can also buy Premium Warranty Plan.
